Fumitaka Nishizawa (1915-1986), one of the leading architects in Japan, is known not only for his Modern architectural works as a “grandchild disciple” of Le Corbusier, but also for his exquisite survey drawings of Traditional Japanese architectures and gardens. This paper is to consider the background of his expression of plants and trees in his survey drawings. Nishizawa’s early sketches published as the book “The Days in Philippines” and his unpublished notes to his collaborators were examined in this paper.
