ln competitions like Judo and Sumo, where opponents wrestle with each other, evasive actions when one opponent has predicted the move of the other can lead to the toppling of the lager opponent. This research investigates postural control during such kinds of activities, while effect of prior experience in forward disturbance. Subjects pushed a lever which could work for forward direction. The difering degree of predictability for postural disturbance (movement of the lever) was examined in 5 subjects under the following 3 conditions of pushing movement while in standing position: in Condition 1 the subject was informed of the lever movement, in Condition 2 the subject was not informed of the lever movement, and in Condition 3 the subject was informed the lever would not move. Under Condition 1 and 2, 12 trials involved movement (Movable task) and 12 trials involved nomovement (Stationary task) for a total of 24 trials conducted in random order. Eleven trials involved only Stationary task were conducted under Condition 3. Subjects were instructed to push the lever forcefully and as quickly as possible on an auditory stimulus, or to regain their standing posture if the lever moved. Forward displacement of the head, shoulder, hip and knee in Stationary task was measured, and the following results were obtained. 1) Forward displacement of the body, especially lower limbs, was decreased and showed variability in Condition 1 and 2 compare with Condition 3, and 2) observed a large diference in each subject under Condition 1 and 2. As a result, the movement was effected prediction of postural disturbance and prior experience, and both of these effects differ from individual.
