Microorganisms contaminating to fifteen crude drugs "Glycyrrhizae Radix" harvested in China and their radio-sensitivity were studied. The number of bacteria and fungi contaminated to the drugs were in the range of 10^3-10^5 and 10^2-10^5/g, respectively. Specified microorganisms, such as coliforms, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, were not detected. The radio-sensitivities, D_<10>-value for r-radiation, of these bacteria and fungi were 2.2 and 0.98kGy, respectively. A detailed study for fungi revealed that the radio-sensitivity depended on the genus and that the survival curve of each genus could be represented as a function of radiation dose.
