The Taiwan Incident (1871-1874) has been considered as the first expedition abroad conducted by Meiji Government, and the first step of later aggressive acts by modernJapan. There are numerous historical researches on diplomacy concerning the Taiwan Incident (1871-1874), but there is scarcely any research on its influence on the formation ofnational and international consciousness in the countries concerned. To investigate the issue, we must pay attention to the trends of Journalism in the countries concerned. For the present, in order to examine the trends of chinese journalism on the Taiwan Incident (1871-1874), this paper focuses upon articles and editorials of following fournewspapers and journals on the Incident; the Xunhuan Ribao (循環日報) in Hongkong, the Shenbao (申報) and the Wanguo Gongbao (万国公報) in Shanghai, the zhongxi Wenjianlu(中西聞見録) in Peijing. These newspapers and journals at that time have generally been recognized as representative chinese journalism.
