Sample males of populations of Acrida lata Motschulsky were collected from four areas, southern Korea, Cheju Do, Tsushima and Iki, including 8 localities. The chromosomes in primary spermatocytes were observed using 75 males from southern Korea, 113 from Cheju Do, 130 from Tsushima, and 89 from Iki (Table 1). Chromosomes of the primary spermatocytes were 11II+X (2n♂=22+X), 11II+X+1B (2n♂=22+X+1B), and 11II+X+2B (2n♂=22+X+2B), which were different among the individulas within the populations (Figs. 1-4). The B chromosome was smaller than the smallest member (11th chromosome) of the normal complement. The B chromosomes in these areas were morphologically the same. The frequencies of males with B chromosomes and mean number of B chromosomes per male were different among the populations (Table 1). The B chromosomes were the same as found in the populations found in mainland of Kyushu, Hirado-jima, and Goto-retto (Table 2, Fig. 5). This fact is explicable on the basis that the region over Korea to Kyushu was continuous land during the last gracial age. At that geological age Acrida lata was able to distribute over this region. The B chromosomes have been maintained in the populations in the islands after the populations were separated by the sea.
