Mothers who possess difficulties or concerns regarding ambiguous anxieties, caused by the annoyance of raising children, cannot control themselves. It seems that their own unsolved problems lurk in these anxieties. Their problems forced their children to bear the burden of inter generational transmission, and the children expressed it with their own symptoms and behaviors. The purpose of this paper is to clarify psychic mechanisms in intergenerational transmission from the psychoanalytic perspectives. In this paper, the definition of intergenerational transmission is that a parent's patterns of object relations shaped by engagement with his/her own parents are transmitted through engagement with his/her own children. First, the paper presents a clinical case of an old woman who has been suffering from physical symptoms for ten years. Second, projective identification and role reversal are abstracted as psychic mechanisms of intergenerational transmission. Projective identification is the term based on the next process; ridding of the self of unwanted aspects of the self, depositing of those unwanted parts into another person: and finally, regarding not self aspects as another person's making the other experience such aspects. Role reversal is the term expressing that parents try to get satisfaction of their emotional needs from their children regarding their children as their own caretaker.
