It is acknowleged that, hitherto, radical operation for esophageal cancer had very high mortality. In 1948, prof. Nakayama reported a new method of total extirpation of the thoracic esophagus and esphagogastric anastomosis on the anterior wall of the thoracus. In our Surgery Clinic, this operation was perfomed on 29 cases (mortality 18%). We report 3 cases of very favorable prognosis after operation.
