This article documents the memorirs of Mr.Akio Maeda and Mr.Kuramitu Nakajo, members of the staff of the Japan Productivity Center(JPC). Maeda and Nakajo worked in the field of industrial relations. The Organization for European Economic Cooperation(OEEC),established as an organization under the Marshall Plan (European reconstruction plan),founded the Productivity Center in 1948 in response to the American government's request. In Japan,it was established by the initiative of the Keizai Doyukai(Japan Association of Corporate Executives)in 1955. The JPC had a great influence on change in postwar industrial relations among Japanese companies. Althoigh industrial relations in Japan were quite "confrontational" until the 1960s,they gradually changed to "cooperative industrial relations." However,it is difficult to describe that shift from confrontational industrial relations to cooperative industrial relations. The role the JPC played is analyzed in detail. The memoirs of Maeda and Nakajo that were presented in this paper serve as important materials in understanding the history of industrial relations in Japan after the war.
