民間団体による野外教育・冒険教育の理念、特徴と課題

近年、野外教育・冒険教育のプログラムが、いくつかの民間団体によって実施されるようになった。その中で代表的な2つの団体が「財団法人日本アウトワード・バウンド協会」（ＯＢＳ）と「株式会社プロジェクトアドベンチャージャパン」（ＰＡＪ）である。ＯＢＳが、自然環境における一定の危険を伴う冒険活動の重要性を強調する一方で、ＰＡＪは、特に子どもや若者たちにとっては、文字通りの意味の「冒険」だけではなく、心理的な意味での「冒険」や「挑戦」も重要であると考えている。ＰＡＪのプログラムは、屋外の環境に限定されず、例えば体育館や教室などの室内でも実施される。本稿では、具体的なプログラムやアクティビティの事例として「ＮＰＯ法人エー・ビー・シー野外教育センター」（ＡＢＣ）のそれを取り上げ、野外教育・冒険教育の理念、特徴と課題について論じる。In recent years, outdoor/adventure education programs have been practiced by several civilian organizations. Outward Bound School (OBS） and Project Adventure Japan (PAJ) are two representatives among those organizations. While OBS places much emphasis on risk-taking adventure activities in natural environment, PAJ regards adventure and challenge as important not only in literary meaning but also in psychological one especially for the young. As PAJ programs are not limited to outdoor settings, they are practiced in indoors, gymnasiums or classrooms, for example. In this article, taking programs and activities of ABC Outdoor Education Center (ABC) as a case, idea, characteristics, and some issues of outdoor/adventure education programs practiced by civilian organizations will be examined.
