A trial of formation of multiploid Trichosporon sp. X-19, yeast, by cell fusion method was conducted for promotion of extra cellular protein（ECP）production. The protoplast of yeast for cell fusion was prepared by treatment with a cell wall lytic enzyme which had been prepared from a culture broth of Actinomadura spandix newly separated from soil. It was estimated by DNA analysis that the fused yeast cell had twice the DNA content of the original cell. With the ECP production test, an increse in production of about thirty percent over the original was observed in the fused yeast culture.
