The role of Figaro, from “The Marriage of Figaro" composed by Mozart, was studied in various aspects such as diction, vocalism and relation between type of voices and character in comparison to Italian opera. In Italian operas, romance between man and woman is the core of the story, so that the part of tenor or soprano mostly tends to be a leading role. However, in the operas of Mozart, the part of baritone becomes an important role in many cases. This is not just caused by selecting the type of voice but by the setting of the story. The opera of Mozart is not just a story of romance, but involves the element of complicated human relationship. Therefore, the part of baritone, which can show a variety of mental/psychological expressions in midrange (sound), takes an important role. The Figaro role is an outstanding example.Furthermore, because of different dictions between Italian and German, it can be seen that each has its own characteristics in such points as method of phrasing or how to fuse melody and diction together. Gallo, who is an Italian singer and good at playing the role of Figaro, does not insist on the typical type of Italian voice, but creates a new image of Figaro. This indicates the potential of expression in the opera of Mozart.
