Although it is well-known that the parasitic gap can be embedded in a CED island, i.e. a subject or an adjunct, it cannot be embedded in a CED island if the latter itself is embedded in another CED island. Given that the wh-feature of the parasitic gap is percolated before it agrees with its probe, and that adjuncts pair-merged in the derivation in compliance with the cyclicity on the separate plane is placed on the primary plane at Transfer (Chomsky(2001)), it is predicted that a probe can agree with an adjunct dominating a parasitic gap if and only if the adjunct is not further dominated by another adjunct. It is shown that Kayne's(1983) insight that the parasitic gap (allegedly, pro) must move at LF either by itself or within a larger phrase under pied piping meshes well with the separate-plane analysis of adjuncts above and predicts the apparently intractable locality of the parasitic gap.
