Support for parenting families is needed more and more, and is actively implemented on site at child care centers and in community activities. The issues that parenting families are facing these days are getting more complex, therefore supporters are expected to be more supportive of parents and families. This paper discusses the qualifications of supporters, based on interviews with practitioners at supporting centers, and introduces the training curriculum of Ryerson University in Canada which offers certification for family supporters. It presents details of the Ryerson University Curriculum that provides the basis of the programmes discussed here. These are : to train students in the child care course as specialized supporters, to introduce six programs including family issues and support, to provide understanding of children, lectures on community resources, a seminar for group communication, and a practicum at a supporting center.
