Richerson et al.(2001)and Yamamoto(2004)both argue that climatic instability during the Pleistocene seems to have played a major role in restraining the sociocultural transition of hunting and gathering bands to agriculture. Richerson et al. argue,however,that the instability must have decreased the agricultural productivity,while Yamamoto emphasizes the effect of climatic instability on the sociocultural transition to sedentism,which led to the origin of agriculture. This paper presents the reanalysis of publicized GISP2 data to illustrate the possible correlation between the climatic instability recorded in Greenland and the sociocultural transition in Levant.
