The hourly feeding activities of the dragonfly larvae of three species, Sympetrum striolatum imitoides, Pantala flavescens and Anax guttatus, were observed in the laboratory under natural lighting. The dragonfly larvae were put individually in a laboratory dish of 10 cm diameter containing 200 ml water with 20 or 40 fourth instar mosquito larvae. At 3 hour interval each dragonfly larva was replaced to a new dish with the same number of mosquito larvae. From the change in the number of mosquito larvae fed by the dragonfly larva recorded every 3 hours, it was shown that the larvae of S. striolatum imitoides and P. flavescens fed mainly at night. On the other hand, in the case of A. guttatus no tendency was observed to feed actively at the certain time within a day, however this dragonfly larva may feed also chiefly at night in the field, since the wandering behavior, which is said to be associated with the feeding, seemed to be limited mostly to the night.
