Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) have played a significant role to diminish the poverty in Bangladesh by offering microcredit to the poor. But still now a large portion of the population is under poverty in Bangladesh. Making these MFIs sustainable as well as more accessible to the poor is a crucial agendum for Bangladesh. Management control systems are essential tools to help management to steer an organization toward its strategic objectives. Major MFIs in Bangladesh lack this management control systems. Budgeting is the only management control tool frequently executed by top MFIs. Designing and implementing an appropriate management control system based on Bangladeshi national culture can improve both the short and long term performance of MFIs. This will make MFIs more efficient and cost effective in extending microcredit services to the target marginal groups.
