When you are in a room with someone, the impression on the atmosphere differs when you are with different people, This study investigated different kinds of impressions on the atmosphere the interviewee and interviewer perceived when they were in the same room, and also the change in impressions from the beginning of the interview to the end. Firstly, the definitions of "self-disclosure", "inter-subjectivity", and "atmosphere" were stated. Next, 32 individual interviews with undergraduate and graduate students followed. The interviews included impression ratings of the atmosphere, self-introductions, and drawings of a house and a room. The impression ratings were carried out at the beginning and the end of each interview. The results suggest that the interviewees' impression changes and that the room feels more spacious at the end of an interview. The interviewer gets a more positive impression at the end of an interview. Moreover, the interviewees' impression on the atmosphere had the closest link to the impressions on themselves while the interviewer's impression on the atmosphere had the closest link to the impressions on the interviewees. It is suggested that the results come from the fact that the interviewer was "I" and therefore this study is considered to occupy an intermediate position between case and empirical studies.
