Many previous researches had shed light on the level of self-esteem. However fewstudies had focused on the stability of self-esteem. Recent researches showed that thestability of self-esteem was negatively correlated with psychological health. However, itis not clear what caused the instability of self-esteem. This study explored the influenceof coping on stability of self-esteem and self-concepts, on 115 undergraduates (a meanage of 19.3 years). In this study, participants completed the questionnaire on theircoping strategies in daily life, TS-WHY J and seven daily ratings of self-esteem. Resultsindicate that the instability of self-esteem negatively correlates with the number ofpositive and negative self-concepts. However, the instability has a positive side effect onthe number of positive self-concepts and it is implied that the instability of self-esteemalso might have a positive effect on the creation of positive self-concepts. It is alsoimplied that it is necessary to keep high self-esteem to investigate clinical techniques ofintervening the stability of self-esteem.
