Geophysical data around the Japanese Islands are filed in compact form. The region for the compilation is from 25°N to 48°N and from 125°E to 150°E. For the files of topography (TP-1) and gravity anomalies (GA-1), available data at 0.2°×0.2° mesh points are digitized. The file of heat flow (HF-1) consists of 537 heat flow values. File EQ-1 of earthquakes is made by picking up the events whose depths have been well determined from bulletins of the International Seismological Centre. The period is from 1964 to 1975, and about 2800 events are filed. For the purpose of plotting the earthquakes on the map, File EQ-1A is made by thinning out clustered events from EQ-1. File ME-1 of earthquake mechanism is based on the EQ-1 and consists of 564 events and 839 solutions. Sixteen mechanism solutions newly determined by the author are also given. The data in these files are displayed on maps by the computer plotter. File EQ-1A is given in form of the stereographic representation. Cross sections made from the present files will be reported in the succeeding paper.
