During a period of about two weeks following the strong earthquake of Feb. 21st, 1936, the aftershocks were observed at five temporary stations in Osaka for the purpose of determining the proper period of the ground. In this work two portable acceleration seismographs were used. The most frequent period at Kodu and Ootemae, stations in the upper town, was 0.15sec., while at Itioka and Noda, stations lying in the lower town, it was about 0.2sec. At the centre of the city, i.e., at Senba the proper period of the ground was 0.3 sec. Frequency curves of the period at these stations are shown in Fig.4. In interpreting the results, geological structure of the city has been taken into consideration.
