Ecological studies on the genus Trachelomonas are necessary to the microfossil analysis, because the lorica of Trachelomonas remain more or less with the diatom shells in the bottom deposits of almost all inlandwaters. My these studies aimed at the establishment of the significance of Trachelomonas as one of the algal indicators of the environmental factors of the waters.In the present paper I report the seasonal change of the Trachelomonas occurrence in some inlandwaters in Kyoto, with special reference to the seasonal change of some important factors of the circumstances.1. Researched waters were the concreted small pool A (Fig. 1), the small pond B with the luxuriant vegetation of Elodea and Nuphar (Fig. 2), and the large pond C of about 8 ha. area (Fig. 3). Temperature, pH, Cl-ion and KMnO_4-consumption of the waters are measured at the same times of catching plankton and the micro-organisms attached on the submerged plants or other substances.2. The seasonal changes of the environmental factors of the waters are shown in Figs. 4~7. It is remarkable that the KMnOrconsumption of pool A is extraordinary high.3. The seasonal changes of plankton are shown in Figs. 8, 9 and 10 by using the Lohmann's ball curve method, and those of the attached micro-organisms in Tables 1, 2 and 3. Trachelomonas occur abundantly in spring and autumn (especially in autumn), and in a small quantity in winter. Tr. volvocina is the commonest species in three waters and through all seasons. Individual number of Trachelomonas is more in A than B and C. Number of species of Trachelomonas is more in C than A and B.4. It seems to me that the Trachelomonas-algae thrive generally in autumn and their propagations are most remarkable in the pool with a large quantity of the solubled organic matters and the number of species consisting the flora is greatest in the pond (C) which was formed long years ago.
