The purpose of this paper is to find out some facts about the factories of Hiroshima Prefecture in World War 1 using the data of the Statistical Yearbooks of Hiroshima Prefecture. The following facts are discovered. First, the number of the factories of Hiroshima Prefecture increased remarkably between 1914 and 1920. The number of shipyards and needle factories rose sharply especially between 1914 and 1917, but fell remarkably after World War 1. Second, the number of factory workers increased in most industries between 1914 and 1920. But in the same period those of shipyards and needle factories fluctuated greatly. These fluctuations represented the quick reaction of markets to the shortage of goods during World War 1. Third, the number of the factories using motive power and also introducing electric power increased considerably. Most of the needle factories used electric power, while most of the silk reeling factories used steam power.
