In the present study, characteristics of the belief system and the status of ego-identity for Japanese international students in China, in addition to the influence of these characteristics and status on the students' school adjustment, are investigated through questionnaire and interview data. From the questionnaires, the results indicate two tendencies. One is that the stronger the irrational belief toward "you and environment" and "ethics," the more unstable the emotions. Another is that the better one's status of ego-identity is, the more self-confident one feels. From the interviews, the results show that, in the process of cross-cultural adjustment, students tend to re-recognize their own culture by confronting the other culture. Moreover, it is obvious that they feel confusion and depression regarding the Pacific War. Moreover, the findings revealed that, the style of Japanese interpersonal relations based on "ura" and "omate" supports cross-cultural adjustment. Furthermore, in summary, the approach from the perspective of rational emotive behavior therapy, or the acquisition of ego-identity, is thought to be effective in supporting the cross-cultural adjustment of Japanese international students in China.
