This paper shows the results of the aero-elastic analyses and finite element analyses on the ultimate loads of a 5MW generic wind turbine model to clarify the effects of the reference wind speeds. The effects of three reference wind speeds related to the bending moments at the blade roots and the blade deflections were compared in the design load case by Extreme Wind Speed Model (EWM). The results showed that the ultimate loads of the rotor blades at reference wind speeds higher than the IEC wind turbine class I were found significant.
