This paper studies theoretical analysis and practical implementation of adaptive active noise control (ANC) systems using Filtered-x Least Mean Square (FxLMS) algorithm. A comprehensive theoretical model for the adaptation process performed by the FxLMS algorithm is developed. Based on this model, closed-form math-ematical expressions for formulating behaviors of FxLMS-based ANC systems are derived. These expressions are derived without using any simplifying assumption regarding the acoustic plant and noise. Also, possible modeling errors are considered. Consequently, the obtained expressions can apply to a practical case with realistic working conditions. The validity of the theoretical results is verified by using a fully-implemented ANC system.
