Thirty patients with retinal circulation disorders were treated with extracorporeal haemorheotherapy. Ten patients were treated with plasma exchange therapy using 5% albumin . 20 patients were treated with plasma differential separation. The following parameters were measured before and after treatment: plasma viscosity (PV), apparent whole blood viscosity at Hct 45 (VB) and erythrocyte aggregation at Hct 30 (EA). The biochemical parameters measured were: Fibrinogen (Fib), alpha-2 macroglobulin (A-2M), IgG, IgA, IgM and lipoproteins. The following parameters were significantly lowered by all treatment methods: PV, BV, Fib, A-2M, LDL, IgG, IgA, IgM, total protein and total cholesterol. The extracorporeal techniques applied are able to influence haemorheological and biochemical parameters to a comparable extent.
