To estimate dynamic response of compact transmission lines, a FEM dynamic analysis code for transmission tower and cable systems was developed. Then performance of the code was demonstrated by simulating sleet-jump test results of an actual scale compact model line in which polymer insulation arms and line-to-line spacers were installed. In the test, sleet-jump was initiated by free drop of weights which were hung from the lines. Cables and towers were modeled by truss elements, where geometrical nonlinearity were taken into account, and linear beam elements, respectively. Numerical analysis results agreed well with the measured tension of the lines and axis stress of insulation arms. Then, the effectiveness of the developed code was clarified.
