One dimensional waveguide which has complicated configurations are generally analyzed by a finite element method. However, its computational cost is very high for high frequency region because of spatial sampling theorem. This paper developed a simplification method to compute natural frequencies of such a structure using a combination of finite element and spectral element. First, a waveguide is divided into a simple and complicated substructure. Then, dynamic stiffness matrices of simple substructures are calculated by the Spectral Element Method, and those of complicated structures are computed by the Finite Element Method. Finally the wave number can be derived by these dynamic stiffness matrices and natural frequencies of assembled structure are simply calculated by linear combination of those wave numbers of each substructure.
