• Using a coaxial double cylinder type viscometer, dielectric properties of ferroelectric liquid crystal 2M45OBC(2-methylbutyl-4'-n-pentyloxy-biphenyl-4-carboxylate), which has a phase sequence of be K-S_C^*-S_A-I, have been measured focusing on the ferroelectric S C^* to S_A transition. The temperature and frequency dependence of dielectric constants show that in spite of no orientational treatment, characteristic ferroelectric behaviors were observed, showing that in the viscometer polarization is spontaneously alignment along the electrodes. On the basis of these results, the spontaneous orientation of ferroelectric liquid crystal and the appearance of ferroelectricity in the viscometer will be discussed.
