The development of shale gas and oil become very active in North America and the oil and gas production from shale becomes to have large portion of total production in US. Because of extremely low permeability of shale, the multi stage hydraulic fracturing technique with long horizontal wells is necessary to get good productivity. The important technique for hydraulic fracturing is to make the complex fracture network (SRV; Stimulated Reservoir Volume), so the operators tend to use the very large volume of fracturing fluid and proppant for hydraulic fracturing. Also a number of new technologies are applied to improve the productivity and reduce the cost. Now the potential of shale gas is recognized in various areas outside North America, so the much more expansion of the production from shale is expected in the near future.
