In this paper, we propose SLA (Service Level Agreement) aware AP (Access Point) power off operations for green WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network). In our proposal, we consider green WLAN that powers on or off idle APs, which associate with no mobile terminals, in order to conserve electric power. We then present that more than 90% of total APs are idle for more than 85% of total duration in an actual WLAN environment in a year. We then formulate when to power off based upon user behaviors in order to keep availability. We also empirically evaluated our formula with actual WLAN traces, and clarify a trade-off between energy conservation and availability. These evaluation has shown that we can conserve 51.59MWh only with 0.01% of availability decay when we carefully decide parameters. We then indicate the possibility to define SLA in order to provide green WLAN services.
