This paper explains the present condition of wave power generation and the wave energy abundance, and in and outside the country, and it discusses it at length about the overtopping type wave power generation which authors are developing now. The details of research of overtopping type wave power generation are as follows. In overtopping-wave type wave-power generation, it is important to optimize the slope angle and the wave overtopping head so that they efficiently capture overtopping wave quantity in response to various wave conditions (wave heights and periods). The experiment measured overtopping wave quantity by installing an experimental water tank of 2 m in width and 1 m in length in a flat-bottom water tank of 22 m in length, 23 m in width and 1.2 m in depth and making irregular waves. As the element technology development for wave-power generation, it reviewed about the study in water level, water pipe diameter, and power generation element by the water tank and the study in an amount of electric power generation by the wave overtopping type wave power generation. The results showed that the power generation efficiency reached a maximum of 10.22 % when R=8 cm and H_<1/3>/L=0.0544. The experiment showed that, to improve the efficiency of power generation from irregular waves and to apply it to practical use, it is important to study wave overtopping heads adapted to wave characteristics and thus increase overtopping wave quantity.
