This paper design a high-performance interleaver for coded orthogonal frequency division multiple access (COFDM) system with non-iterative detection over quasi-static Rayleigh fading channels. To this end, we introduce a metric and diversity guard to evaluate the coding gain and to guarantee the achievable diversity order for COFDM, respectively. and proposes a novel deterministic interleaver, called block linear interleaver (BLI), by combining linear interleaver (LI) and block interleaver (BLI). Our simulation results shown that the resultant BLI always outperforms random interleaver and the block interleaver adopted in the IEEE 802.11a standard.
