This paper aims to compare locations of shopping malls in the prefectures of Japan and to analyze data of shopping malls. The retail census in 2009 classifies the areas of shopping malls into several categories such as railroad stations, downtown, shopping malls along major roads and so on. Analysis of the statistic data of the retail census data found the following facts. 1 In Tokyo, shopping malls are concentrated near rail road stations. 2 In local prefectures, the downtown takes the larger share of retail sales. 3 Big retails stores takes the larger share of sales especially in urban areas in Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and so on. Another purpose of this paper is to analyze the data of individual shopping malls. The total number of shopping malls is more than twelve thousand. In regards with sales efficiency, the paper shows the statistic correlation between workers number and floor space. The fact findings are as follows. 1 Within the range of a certain scale, as the workers number grows, the sales per worker increases. 2 Within the range of a certain scale, as the sales space becomes larger, the sales per worker increases. 3 As the space per worker increases, the sales of per worker decreases.
