biodiesel production from crude palm oil in supercritical tert-butyl methyl ether (MTBE) is proposed, and experimentally investigated using canola oil as a model compound for crude palm oil. Canola oil reacted with tert-butyl methyl ether to generate fatty acid methyl esters and glycerol mono tert-butyl ether. The fatty acid methyl ester yield of 0.86 was obtained in the short reaction time of 5 min at 350 ℃, molar ratio of methyl tert-butyl ether to oil of 40:1, with the pressure of 6 MPa.
