This paper is concerning research into the continuity and transformation between Northeast Asian cooperation in the 1930s and sub-regional studies in the 1990s from the point of space theoretical approaches. Regionalization is a process by which the international order, consisting of nation states, loses its self-evidence and absoluteness. At the same time this process is related to some philosophical thought. The foci of the paper are the following three points: 1) frameworks of the international relations theory (IR theory) in Northeast Asia; 2) spatial character of the Northeast Asia sub-region; 3) the application of spatial theory to Northeast Asian regional studies. By conducting this research, it is made clear that a philosophical approach and an analytical approach should be connected as sub-regional studies in Northeast Asia from a viewpoint of international relations.
