The purpose of this paper is to consider what " rockabilly (one genre of popular music)" is. Although therehave been social or historical studies on Rockabilly, little is known about its musicological side. Throughmusicological analysis of Sun Recordings of Elvis Presley. I made clear six characters of Elvis' Sun record- ings.(1) Rockabilly was developed mainly from Country music and Blues, and indirectry from Jazz.(Z) The sound is clean and echoed, and no distorted sound is used.(3) The style of playing is simple, however, players make effort to produce maximum musical effectwith a few players and instruments.(4) Instruments are limited to the strings. And styles of melodies are basically straight motion,conjuctinon motion and junct motion.(5) The contrabass (wood bass) plays an important role in the sound.(6) ln addition to a basical 2 meter rhythm. shuffle and umpateedle are often used. The tempo is fasterthan original country and blues songs.
