In order to find out the cultural conditions that may improve the yield and quality of Geranium thunbergii, the effects of the planting density and light intensity on the yield and tannin content of the plant were investigated. In the planting density experiment, the plants were cultivated at the density of 50, 100 or 150 plants per 10 m^2 in the field. As regards the light intensity, it was controlled with shading nets, having shading percentages of 22, 45, 60 and 80%. The plants were cultivated under one of those covering nets and the control plants were cultivated without any net. The results showed that the weight of the individual air-dried aerial parts weight were found to be higher when the parts were cultivated at the rate of 100 or 150 per 10 m^2 than when they were at 50/10 m^2, and tannin content in them was the highest on 100 plants per 10 m^2. Light intensity also had effects on the air-dry weight of the aerial parts and their tannin content. The air dried aerial parts weight was heavier when no shading or a 22% shading was used, and the tannin content was the highest when a 22% shading was used. These results suggest that we can produce G. thunbergii of good crude drug quality at a good yield when this plant was cultivated at 100 plants per 10 m^2 and under a 20% shading.
