It had been clarified in the first report that tunnel-shading with the nets which have the ability of 50-55% light-interception was effective to accelerate the germination of senburiseed, the hard-germinator. Then, we studied the effects of the shading on the vegetation of young plants. The tests were held during 1974-1975 using 1-year-old and 2-years-old plants shaded by the nets of different rates of light-interception. The 1-year-old plant grew best by shading with net of 50-55% light-interception. Namely, the same rate of light-interception was effective to both the germination of seeds and the vegetation of very young plants. When the amount of light was more abundant, the growth of the plants was poor owing to the high temperature or drying of soil and there were much died plants after germination. In the case of the less amount of light, the plants grew poorly owing to the decrease of the ability of assimilation. As for the 2-years-old, the plant-bodies had been grown stronger and their roots spread widely and deeply. So, the 2-years-old plants have stronger resistance for high temperature and drying of soil than the 1-year-old plants. The 2-years-old plants in the tests, therefore, grew better in proportion to the increase of amount of light. By shading, stems stretched abnormally and became slender, and the numbers of branching were less, and the vegetation was very poor. As the effects of light conditions are different for 1-year-old plants and 2-years-old ones, in cultivations of senburi-plants, it is recommended to shade for 1-year-old plants at the rate of 50-55% light-interception, and to grow without shading for 2-years-old plants.
