In this article, an advanced version of a hybrid Freeman/eigenvalue decomposition technique for land parameters extraction is presented with an illustrative example of application. The idea is to improve the accuracy of the technique for required extracted parameter in comparison of original technique. The motivation arises from decomposition problem in obtaining a meaningful volume scattering estimation, so that technique can be used for both oriented objects and vegetation/forest areas. Two strategies are proposed for general applicability of a hybrid Freeman/eigenvalue technique: one is double unitary transform of coherency matrix; the other is extended volume scattering model. By using double unitary transformation of coherency matrix, it is possible to reduce the number of independent parameters from 9 to 7. The extension volume scattering model play essential role for a hybrid Freeman/eigenvalue technique. Since the volume scattering power is evaluated by HV component caused by vegetation only in the existing technique, therefore, an extended volume scattering power is utilized. It is shown that vegetation area and oriented objects such as urban building area well discriminated by proposed technique as compared to existing technique.
