This paper analyses ways of evaluating what kind of companies provide good working environments for women. Using data from a survey of 300 major companies in Japan, we try to point out which variables are the most important contributing factors. Variables such as length of employment, rate of employee turnover, marital status, days of paid holiday used, rate of women who are management level employees, and the number of women getting promotions are examined to determine if there is any correlation among them. Our results suggest that we can classify the aforementioned variables into two groups. The first one is working condition variables including length of employment, rate of employee turnover, marital status, and days of paid holiday used. Except for rate of employee turnover, which has a strong negative correlation, the variables in this group have a strong positive correlation. The second group is related to the number of women getting promoted. We find that there is a weak negative correlation between the first group variables and second group variables, which suggests that there is a trade-off between working condition for women and promotion of women. We plotted the valid answers from 211 companies in a two dimensional graph in which one axis shows the length of employment and the other shows the rate of promotion. To look at the distribution, a few ideal companies where women can work for a long period and have a good chance of being promoted are shown in the upper-right hand quadrant.
