John Bunyan was not a so called narrow-minded Puritan. Instead he was broad-minded and even his humour is shown in The Water of Life for instance. This paper analyzes this work carefully in connection with The Pilgrim's Progres, mainly comparing 'the Slough of Dispond' and 'the River of Death' with the content of The Water of Life. Some poems in A Book for Boys and Girls are used to show Bunyan's broad-mindedness and delights as a Puritan. He was peaceful knowing all things in the world were in God's care and love, though his age was threatening.
