This research focuses on the changes of wind force acting on the ground surface of the sand dunes in the Keriya River in the south-western part of the Taklimakan Desert of the Tarim Basin, located in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. The distribution patterns of soil moisture are analyzed using LANDSAT-TM image analysis (the images taken on September 13, 1999; 36.50°-39.86°N, 80.52°-85.12°E) and spatial correlations between these patterns with the sand dunes shape (height and prevailing direction) and with their wavelength. We defined the characteristics of the effect of wind and water forces visible on the sand dunes.
