• Bai(2006) discusses that higher－level explicatures are typically realized in sentence final particles in Mongolian and Japanese, and suggests that this may come from the same SOV word order． But there is a similar phenomenon in Chinese as an SVO language．In this paper I discuss that sentence final particles do appear in Chinese and they are closely connected with higher－level explicatures． The phenomenon is similar to that in Mongolian and Japanese but quite different from that in English， which has the same word order as Chinese．
