A consideration on the socio-economic regionality of the matsumoto basin : based on the numerical regionalization framework

The regionality of the Matsumoto Basin, composed of three cities, four towns, and eight villages, is investigated based on the numerical regionalization framework, compared with the regionality of Nagano Prefecture. The basic input for this framework is the geographic matrix with 122 areas (municipalities) and 42 areal attributes. In operating "the numerical regionalization with both factor analysis and cluster analysis, we add an effort of adopting the weighted factor score by the explanatory level for each factor. Summarizing several findings as the output from the analysis, it can be said that, even though the output could generally depend on the content of geographic matrix as input, in the recent time the regional aspects of urbanization, industrialization, and motorization define mostly the regionality of the Matsumoto Basin rather than several geomorphic and historical elements pointed out earlier by many scholars.
