• Spain today is the world leader in commercial deployment of Concentrating Solar Thermal Power (CSTP) plants, and also in their technical development. At the end of 2009, CSTP plants with a total power of 183 MW_e were officially in operation, while 1168 MW_e were under construction and 9513 MW__e were at different stages of promotion, and 14730 MW_e have begun permitting, licensing and grid-access-point acquisition procedures. This article gives an overview of the current state of CSTP plants and projects in Spain. A list of plants in operation, under construction or promotion, and the companies involved in this market in Spain is provided. CSTP R&D in Spain is also briefly described.
