他教科との連携を踏まえた小学校英語教育 : 内容スキーマの向上を意識した指導法の検討

The promotion of English education at the elementary school level has been argued so far. The pros and cons are still battled back and forth. However, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has decided to introduce English education starting at the fifthgrade level in 2011. MEXT has started to distribute the tutorial manuals and the teaching plans for all elementary schools. However, most of the topics might well be called a summarization of the previous materials that are the learning games and activities which we have already known. Research of recent years in psychology of learning shows us that the materials with reality serve as important driving forces in evolving capacities of children for their learning. This means that it is necessary for the children to use the materials, what is real such as using natural resources for day-to-day living, for teaching English. A large vocabulary is contained in the other types of materials which are used by children everyday. It is effective and durable for the teachers to use the textbooks of the other subjects in English education at the elementary school. The teaching methods based on child's cognitive development and the thoughts of how to increase the growth potential of children's content schema are shown in this paper.
