Thanks to the word order similarity of Mongolian and Japanese, we construct rather simple transfer based machine translation system from Mongolian to Japanese. We need not to use syntactic analyzer of Mongolian. The system includes Mongolian morphological analysis part, Mongolian to Japanese transfer part and Japanese generation part. Mongolian to Japanese transfer part is small sized rewriting processor which is controlled by context sensitive rewriting rules. The most important part of the system is translation selection phase in the Japanese generation part. We compare two types of Japanese language models to select proper translations. They are Bunsetsu (Japanese minimum phrase) bigram model and Bunsetsu dependency model. Evaluation experiments show the latter model gives more accurate translations than the former model
