Laminar-turbulent transition of a mixing layer induced by oscillating flat plates at an exit of a two-dimensional nozzle was experimentally investigated. The plates oscillate vertically to the mean flow. Mean and fluctuating velocity components in the streamwise and normal directions were measured by hot-wire anemometers. When the plates did not oscillate, periodic variations in the velocity appeared. A sinusoidal variation of the same frequency with the plate oscillation appeared when the plates oscillated. Then, the fundamental fluctuation that was observed at the stationary state was superposed on the sinusoidal variation. The randomness factor, which had been proposed by Sato, was appeared to be a reasonable indicator of the present transition process, especially in the process where the periodic velocity fluctuation became irregular. However, the factor certainly indicated the same value at two streamwise positions.
