It is well-known that vortices are monochromatically shed from 2-D bluff bodies. The present paper experimentally focuses on this problem using an NACA0012 airfoil at variable incidence and free-stream speed. Visualized-flow field and hot-wire data show that growth of monochromatic disturbance is associated with absolute instability in separation region at the negative-pressure side of the model.
